What are the requirements for becoming a resource parent?

  • Must be 25+ years of age
  • Pass background check
  • CPR & First Aid  (Adult and Infant)
  • Financially self reliant
  • Pre-Approval Training

What are the responsibilities of a resource parent?

The desire and time to provide attention, care and transportation for a child in any crisis situation

How long does it take to become a resource parent?

The process depends on the time it takes prospective foster parents to complete paper work, meet all training requirements, home passes inspection and  fingerprint clearance is received.

Does it cost anything to become a certified resource parent?

  • $82.00 for background check per adults over the age of 18 who reside in the home
  • CPR/First Aid  & Water Safety class cost varies depending on where you go
  • $0.00 DMV print out
  • Health & Screen and TB test depending on Doctor’s Fees

Can my biological child share a room with a foster child?

Yes as long as the child is 5 years younger or older and are of the same sex

Will someone come to my home?

Yes we conduct three visits to your home before certification is complete

What role do foster child’s biological parents play?

The role of biological parent is established by the courts and county social worker.

How does contact managed between foster child and biological parents?

By the age of the child and the biological parent’s history are important factors to determine frequency and nature of contact. resource parents will be included in planning of visitation arrangements and will provide transportation for the children to their visits.

How much do I have to spend on a child?

Reimbursement is given to resource parents depending on the age of the child to cover all the child’s needs and transportation

How long does a foster child stay in my home?

This is established by the courts to determine the child’s stay in the home.  Teens can stay pass their 18 birthday if they wish under the  AB12 law.
